Waynesboro, GA – Two Killed in Accident on Hwy 25 near Coleman Young Rd

Waynesboro, GA (August 24, 2025) – Authorities have identified the two people killed in a collision on Thursday afternoon, August 21, on Highway 25 in Burke County.

The victims were 71-year-old Wanda Williams Saxon and 78-year-old Linwood Douglas Saxon, both residents of Waynesboro, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies received a dispatch call to the scene at the intersection of Highway 25 South and Coleman Young Road around 1:52 p.m. Investigators say a vehicle traveling east on Coleman Young Road came to a stop sign before attempting to cross onto Highway 25. As it entered the southbound lanes, it was struck by an oncoming semi-truck in the right lane.

Both occupants of the smaller vehicle suffered fatal injuries, officials confirmed. The semi-truck driver was taken to Burke Medical Center for evaluation.

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division is continuing to review the crash to determine the exact circumstances.

We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased victims. We hope those injured recover rapidly.

Georgia Car Accidents

Across Georgia, deadly car accidents continue to leave lasting scars on families and communities. Each year, more than 1,800 lives are lost on the state’s roads—an alarming figure that highlights the dangers motorists face every day. Behind every statistic is a story of loved ones taken too soon and families left to pick up the pieces.

Many of these tragedies stem from preventable choices. Speeding, driving under the influence, and reckless behavior remain leading contributors to deadly wrecks. National data shows that human error is involved in more than 90% of fatal crashes.

Despite decades of public awareness campaigns, impaired driving still kills thousands annually, while excessive speed continues to be one of the most lethal factors on the road.

For surviving family members, the aftermath of a fatal crash is overwhelming. The grief of sudden loss is often compounded by unexpected financial strain, unanswered questions, and the uncertainty of what comes next. In such difficult times, having reliable guidance and advocacy can make a meaningful difference.
