Lee Co., GA (July 30, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash led to significant traffic delays Monday evening after a serious collision forced a temporary closure of US 19 near Creekside Drive, just outside the Publix shopping center in Lee County.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office received reports of the crash at approximately 5:09 p.m. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and shut down the stretch of US 19 between Forrester Drive and Century Road for nearly two hours to clear debris and assist those involved.
According to officials with the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred when a northbound vehicle on US 19 attempted to make a left turn onto Creekside Drive but failed to yield to oncoming traffic. As a result, it collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.
Both drivers sustained injuries in the impact and were transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany for medical treatment. No additional injuries were reported.
Authorities have since reopened the roadway and are continuing their investigation into the incident. Drivers in the area were urged to use caution and remain alert at intersections.

Georgia Car Crashes
Each year, Georgia sees a staggering number of car accidents, with over 300,000 reported statewide. These crashes result in more than 150,000 injuries and thousands of fatalities. What’s especially heartbreaking is that a large percentage of these accidents are entirely preventable, often the result of reckless or negligent driving.
National data shows that driver error is behind more than 94% of all traffic collisions. In Georgia, the most common forms of negligent driving include:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Distracted driving, such as texting or using a phone while driving
- Drowsy driving or driving while fatigued
- Excessive speeding and reckless driving behavior
To emphasize the severity, speeding alone contributes to over 12,000 deaths each year, and distracted driving is responsible for roughly 400,000 accidents across the country. These dangerous behaviors not only put the reckless drivers at risk but also endanger everyone on the road, often leaving victims with serious injuries, ongoing physical pain, and financial strain.
