Hall Co., GA - Man Killed in Collision on Athens Hwy near Morgan Dr

Hall Co., GA (August 31, 2025) – A fatal crash in Hall County claimed the life of a Jefferson man and left another driver injured on Thursday afternoon, August 28.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened shortly after 1 p.m. on U.S. 129/Athens Highway near Morgan Drive. Investigators say 56-year-old J. Jesus Linares of Jefferson was traveling east in a westbound lane in a 2009 Nissan Sentra when his vehicle collided head-on with a 2013 GMC Sierra.

Both Linares and the truck’s driver, 61-year-old Reginald Borders of Gainesville, were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Linares did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Borders was treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

Deputies determined Linares was responsible for the wreck. Authorities closed the northbound side of Athens Highway for roughly an hour as crews cleared the scene.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Georgia Car Accidents

Hall Co., GA - Man Killed in Collision on Athens Hwy near Morgan DrEvery year, hundreds of lives are cut short on Georgia’s roads due to fatal car crashes. These tragedies leave behind grieving families who must cope with sudden loss, emotional devastation, and the heavy financial strain that follows. From busy interstates to rural highways, the impact of deadly collisions is felt in every corner of the state.

Statistics from the Georgia Department of Transportation highlight the alarming reality—most fatal crashes stem from preventable driver mistakes. Among the leading causes are:

  • Excessive speeding or reckless driving
  • Drunk or drug-impaired driving
  • Distracted driving, including phone use behind the wheel
  • Failure to yield or obey traffic signals
  • Driving while fatigued

When a driver makes a reckless or negligent choice, the results can be life-altering for other motorists and their families. In addition to the profound emotional toll, surviving loved ones often face mounting expenses—funeral arrangements, outstanding medical bills, and the loss of financial support once provided by their loved one.

Wrongful death cases arising from car accidents are rarely straightforward. These claims often require thorough investigation, accident reconstruction, review of police reports, and sometimes testimony from expert witnesses. Having experienced legal guidance can make all the difference.
