Clayton County, GA (August 28, 2025) – A woman lost control of her vehicle in a Walmart parking lot on Tuesday afternoon, August 26, striking a pedestrian and crashing into the building, according to the Riverdale Police Department.
The incident occurred at the Walmart located off Georgia Highway 85 and Lamar Hutcheson Parkway in Riverdale. Police said the driver hit a pedestrian exiting the store before continuing forward and colliding with the side of the building. The vehicle breached the exterior wall and partially entered the store before stopping.
The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities believe the driver may have experienced a medical emergency behind the wheel, which caused her to lose control of the car.
Footage from First Alert Chopper showed damage to the front of the Walmart, along with two vehicles with damaged hoods being towed from the scene. Police cordoned off the entrance with tape, though the store remained open and under normal operations despite the large law enforcement presence.
This crash remains under investigation, and further details have not yet been released.
We hope the injured individuals recover swiftly.
Pedestrian and Vehicle Accidents in Georgia

Accidents involving pedestrians are among the most dangerous because those on foot have little protection against vehicles. In Georgia, pedestrian accidents often lead to severe or life-threatening injuries that require immediate medical care. Parking lots and store entrances are especially high-risk locations, as drivers and pedestrians share space in congested areas.
Victims of pedestrian accidents often face:
-
Emergency medical treatment and hospitalization
-
Surgeries, rehabilitation, and long-term care
-
Lost wages due to time away from work
-
Emotional trauma and lasting psychological effects
When crashes occur due to medical emergencies, as may be the case here, liability can still be complex. Victims and families must navigate insurance claims, hospital bills, and the legal process during an already overwhelming time. Working with our experienced car accident lawyer can help victims pursue compensation for their medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.
