Claremont, GA - Two Killed in Collision on Cleveland Hwy

Clermont, GA (July 7, 2025)  – A tragic two-vehicle crash on Saturday, July 5, claimed the lives of a White County couple and sent several others to the hospital, according to officials.

The collision occurred around 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Cleveland Highway (U.S. 129) and Old Cleveland Road/State Route 254. Authorities say 81-year-old Chandler Scott Partin and 82-year-old Esther L. Partin, both of Cleveland, were traveling east on Old Cleveland Road when their vehicle collided with another car traveling north on Cleveland Highway.

Following the impact, the Partins’ vehicle caught fire. Emergency crews responded quickly, and both Mr. and Mrs. Partin were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with critical injuries. Mr. Partin passed away later that evening, and Mrs. Partin died the next night, on Sunday, July 6.

The occupants of the second vehicle—including the driver and four passengers, two of whom were juveniles—were also taken to the hospital. All were treated for minor injuries and later released.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit continues to review the incident. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, but no charges are expected at this time.

We extend our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased individuals at this grieving time. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.

Car Crashes in Georgia

Claremont, GA - Two Killed in Collision on Cleveland HwyMotor vehicle fatalities continue to be a pressing issue across Georgia, with hundreds of lives lost each year due to preventable crashes. The state sees over 300,000 traffic accidents annually, leading to more than 1,800 deaths and approximately 150,000 injuries—figures that underscore the serious dangers on our roads.

A large portion of these fatal collisions can be traced back to reckless and negligent driving behaviors. Nationwide, human error accounts for more than 93% of traffic accidents. Common contributing factors include distracted driving, excessive speeding, impairment from drugs or alcohol, and other forms of carelessness behind the wheel. Each year, more than 11,000 people are killed in speed-related crashes, and over 12,000 lives are lost due to drunk driving alone.

These tragedies often leave families devastated, coping not only with grief, but also with the financial burdens that follow. From funeral costs and medical bills to lost income and emotional trauma, the aftermath of a fatal accident can be overwhelming.
