Bartow County, GA (July 10, 2025) – A deadly crash shut down a portion of Interstate 75 near the GA-92 exit Wednesday evening in the Acworth area of Bartow County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded to the scene just before 7 p.m. near mile marker 278. Investigators say a gray Mazda 3 traveling in the right lane struck an aluminum trailer ramp that was lying in the roadway.
Shortly after, a blue Peterbilt semi-truck also hit the ramp, which caused a fuel spill. As the situation unfolded, a black Ford Taurus SUV veered off the interstate and collided with the rear of the trailer attached to the now-disabled semi.
Tragically, the driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities shut down the interstate as emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the sequence of events. Further details are expected as the investigation continues.

Georgia Car Crashes
Georgia continues to experience a troubling number of fatal car accidents each year, with many of the most devastating crashes occurring along heavily traveled corridors like I-75, I-285, and Highway 16. While the state’s roadways are vital for daily life and commerce, they can also be sites of unimaginable tragedy when crashes occur.
Passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles all share these busy roads, and when collisions happen, especially at high speeds, the consequences can be catastrophic. The loss of life in a split-second crash leaves families reeling, struggling to make sense of what happened and how to move forward.
Most deadly crashes are not random—they’re often the result of human error. Nationwide, over 90% of fatal traffic accidents are linked to negligent driving behaviors. In Georgia, some of the most common causes of fatal crashes include:
- Speeding, especially on highways and interstates
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Distracted driving, including texting or using GPS while behind the wheel
- Reckless or aggressive driving behaviors
- Fatigue or drowsy driving
- Running red lights or failing to yield
When someone loses their life because another driver made a reckless or careless decision, the impact extends far beyond the crash scene. Families are left with emotional trauma, financial burdens, and legal complexities as they seek answers and accountability.
