Atlanta, GA (August 8, 2025) – A tragic crash on Interstate 85 North claimed two lives and closed the interstate for more than two hours late Thursday night, August 7, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Senoia Road. A Hyundai Sonata and a tractor-trailer were involved in the incident.

Authorities confirmed that the car’s driver, Derrick Epps, and front-seat passenger, Ka’Mia Frazier, died at the scene. A 7-month-old child riding in the back seat was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital for evaluation but appeared to be unharmed. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The interstate was shut down for approximately two and a half hours and reopened shortly after 12:30 a.m. This remains an active investigation, and further details are expected to be released as they become available.

We hope the wounded individuals make a rapid recovery.

Georgia Car Accidents

Atlanta, GA - Two Killed in Collision on I-85 near Senoia RdFatal crashes remain a devastating and persistent problem on Georgia’s roads, claiming lives and leaving families across the state with unimaginable loss. In 2022 alone, more than 1,800 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents—a sobering statistic that reflects a troubling upward trend affecting both urban and rural communities.

Georgia’s roadways carry a wide range of risks. Heavily traveled corridors in Atlanta, Augusta, and Macon see high traffic volumes daily, where a single moment of inattention can cause irreversible tragedy. Rural highways, often driven at higher speeds, pose their own dangers. Among the most catastrophic collisions are those involving semi-trucks. These massive commercial vehicles can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, and when involved in a crash—especially at highway speeds—the results are often fatal.

In recent years, fatal collisions across the state, including those involving large trucks, have been linked to preventable behaviors such as:

  • Distracted driving, including texting or other mobile device use
  • Driving at unsafe speeds on interstates, rural highways, or city streets
  • Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Drowsy driving or falling asleep at the wheel
  • Ignoring traffic lights, stop signs, and other basic road rules

The aftermath of a deadly crash—whether it involves passenger vehicles, semi-trucks, or both—extends far beyond the scene. Families must cope with profound grief while facing unexpected financial burdens such as funeral expenses, medical bills, and the loss of a loved one’s income and support. Holding negligent drivers and, in the case of truck crashes, potentially trucking companies accountable can be a complex and overwhelming process during a time of mourning.
