Truck Accidents in Georgia
Each year, Georgia roads bear witness to a staggering number of vehicle crashes—over 300,000 traffic accidents are reported annually. These collisions result in injuries for more than 150,000 individuals and claim thousands of lives. A significant portion of these tragedies could have been prevented, as many are the direct result of negligent driving.
Across the United States, negligent driving has become a nationwide epidemic. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), over 94% of all traffic accidents are linked to human error and negligence. This includes behaviors such as:
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Using a phone or other distractions behind the wheel
- Driving while drowsy or fatigued
- Excessive speeding
In one recent year alone, more than 12,000 people lost their lives in speed-related crashes, while distracted driving caused an estimated 400,000 accidents across the country.
But one area of even greater concern involves large commercial vehicles—specifically semi-trucks. These massive machines can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, and when involved in accidents, the outcomes are often catastrophic.
- In the United States, over 500,000 truck-related crashes occur each year.
- Of these, approximately 4,800 to 5,000 result in fatalities.
- Georgia consistently ranks among the top states for deadly truck crashes, with hundreds of fatalities and thousands of injuries reported annually.
- The majority of these fatal crashes involve passenger vehicles colliding with large trucks.
Due to their size and weight, accidents involving semi-trucks often lead to life-threatening injuries, extensive vehicle damage, and complicated liability cases. Truck drivers are held to strict federal safety standards, but when these standards are violated through fatigue, improper maintenance, or substance use, the consequences can be devastating.
If you or someone you love has been hurt in a crash caused by a negligent driver, especially involving a commercial vehicle like a semi-truck, you may be dealing with a long and painful road to recovery. Between hospital stays, therapy, lost wages, and emotional trauma, the impact of the accident can feel overwhelming.
