Paulding Co., GA (August 30, 2025) — A South Paulding High School student was struck by a pickup truck on Wednesday morning, August 27, while walking near school.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Winn Road, directly in front of Dugan Elementary School. Authorities confirmed that no crossing guard was present at the time of the crash.
The driver remained at the scene while investigators worked to reconstruct what happened. The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office reported that the student was transported to Kennestone Hospital in critical condition.
School officials notified parents that the student sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment. Counselors have been made available to assist students and staff following the incident.
We wish a rapid and total recovery to the injured student.
Georgia Pedestrian Accidents
From crowded Atlanta intersections to dimly lit rural roads, Georgia pedestrians face life-threatening risks every day. When a vehicle collides with someone on foot, the results are often devastating—leaving victims with catastrophic injuries and families reeling from the sudden impact.
Pedestrian accidents are especially dangerous because pedestrians have no protection against the force of a moving vehicle. Whether it’s a distracted driver near a crosswalk, speeding along a busy highway, or failing to yield in a school zone, these crashes can cause severe harm in a matter of seconds.
According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for pedestrian fatalities. Many of these accidents occur in high-traffic areas, near schools, or along poorly maintained roadways without proper sidewalks, crosswalks, or lighting.
Common causes of pedestrian collisions in Georgia include:
- Distracted or impaired driving
- Speeding in residential or school zones
- Failure to yield at crosswalks
- Poor roadway lighting or a lack of safe walkways
- Driver fatigue or reckless behavior
When these accidents occur, it is usually the pedestrian who suffers the worst outcomes—ranging from traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord damage to broken bones, internal injuries, and lasting emotional trauma.
