Gainesville, GA (August 19, 2025) – Police responded to a vehicle accident on Atlanta Highway near Industrial Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. on August 18.

According to Gainesville Police spokesman Kevin Holbrook, a Toyota Rav4 veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors, according to reports.

The driver, identified as 24-year-old Ricardo Jose Diaz Marquez of Gainesville, was taken into custody on DUI charges. Two adult male passengers sustained injuries and were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

The collision caused significant travel disruptions in the area overnight. A broken utility pole left traffic signals dark between Industrial Boulevard and Memorial Park Drive, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Utility crews worked through the early morning hours to restore service.

We wish those hurt a swift recovery.

Georgia Car Accidents

Gainesville, GA - Two Hurt in Collision on ATL Hwy near Industrial BlvdGeorgia’s highways and local roads are the site of hundreds of thousands of crashes every year, with more than 300,000 accidents reported statewide. These collisions leave over 150,000 people injured annually and claim thousands of lives. The most tragic reality is that many of these incidents are avoidable—most stem from driver negligence and poor decision-making behind the wheel.

Nationally, driver error is responsible for roughly 94% of all motor vehicle crashes. In Georgia, common examples of this negligence include drunk or drug-impaired driving, texting and phone use while driving, speeding, and driver fatigue. Each of these reckless behaviors drastically raises the likelihood of a catastrophic collision.

The consequences extend far beyond the crash itself. Speeding contributes to more than 12,000 deaths every year across the country, while distracted driving is linked to nearly 400,000 crashes annually. For victims, the aftermath often includes severe injuries, ongoing medical treatment, emotional distress, lost wages, and a heavy financial burden.
