Atlanta, GA (August 15, 2025) — Traffic has fully reopened on Interstate 985 after a Friday evening crash near Flowery Branch that left one driver injured and temporarily shut down all southbound lanes.
The incident occurred on August 15, around 5:30 p.m., near Exit 12, according to the Flowery Branch Police Department. Responding officers located a Toyota passenger vehicle in the median barrier cables. Roughly a quarter mile north, a Jeep Cherokee was stopped with visible damage to its front fender and windshield.
The Toyota driver required transportation to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries. The driver of the Jeep was not hurt.
Southbound lanes were closed for about two hours while emergency personnel cleared the scene. One left northbound lane was also shut down during the response. Hall County deputies assisted with traffic control, and all lanes reopened shortly before 7 p.m.
At this time, details about the full extent of the vehicle damage have not been released.
We hope the injured parties make a swift recovery.
Georgia Car Accidents
Each year, Georgia’s roadways see an alarming number of crashes—more than 300,000 in total—leaving over 150,000 people injured. These aren’t just statistics. Behind every number is a person dealing with the painful and often life-changing aftermath of a serious collision.
National research shows that human error plays a role in the vast majority of accidents—over 94% of them. In Georgia, some of the most common risk factors include:
- Distracted driving such as texting or looking away from the road
- Speeding or aggressive driving
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Drowsy or fatigued driving
These behaviors make Georgia’s roads more dangerous for everyone, often resulting in devastating injuries like broken bones, spinal cord trauma, traumatic brain injuries, and long-term chronic pain. Even a single moment of negligence can leave victims facing months—or even years—of recovery.
The costs of an injury crash can quickly become overwhelming. Hospital stays, surgeries, rehabilitation, missed work, and ongoing care put financial and emotional strain on individuals and their families.
