Port Wentworth, GA (July 21, 2025) – A tragic collision claimed the life of a South Carolina woman Monday afternoon in Port Wentworth, near the entrance to the International Paper Mill.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred on July 21, shortly before 3 p.m., on GA Highway 25. Authorities say Kelly Sullivan, of Bluffton, was behind the wheel of a BMW when her vehicle struck a load of logs of a turning log truck. The truck was attempting to make a left turn into the paper mill at the time.
After hitting the logs, the BMW veered off the roadway and crashed into a tree. Sullivan was rushed to Memorial Hospital for treatment, but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the log truck continued into the mill to unload the cargo. Officials have not yet released that individual’s identity, and the investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
Georgia Truck Accidents
Each year, hundreds of lives are lost in Georgia due to collisions involving large commercial trucks. These devastating crashes leave families shattered—grappling with unexpected loss, emotional pain, and mounting financial burdens. The sheer size and weight of tractor-trailers, logging trucks, and delivery vehicles mean that when accidents occur, the consequences are often catastrophic.
Data from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Georgia Department of Transportation consistently show that driver negligence remains a leading factor in fatal truck crashes. In fact, a majority of deadly trucking accidents can be traced to avoidable human error, including:
- Speeding or aggressive driving
- Fatigue or drowsy driving, especially among long-haul truckers
- Impaired driving from drugs or alcohol
- Distracted driving, including phone use or in-cab technology
- Improperly loaded or unsecured cargo
- Failure to yield or obey traffic laws
When a truck driver—or the company that employs them—acts carelessly, the outcome can be devastating for innocent motorists. Families left behind are often forced to deal with the emotional toll of losing a loved one while also facing sudden expenses such as funeral costs, medical bills, and loss of household income.
Pursuing a wrongful death claim after a fatal truck accident is never easy. These cases are often more complex than standard car accident claims, involving in-depth investigations, black box data, trucking regulations, and sometimes corporate or third-party liability. That’s why having the right legal team matters.
